Name: Zell Dincht
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Canon: Final Fantasy VIII
Canon Point: Time Compression, trying to make it back after defeating Ultimecia
History:
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Zell_Dincht#Story
Personality:
Zell has a very outgoing nature and is not afraid to say what he thinks, sometimes loudly. If he doesn’t say it, his actions would. He expresses what he feels very clearly by either these words or actions though he has the tendency to blurt things out without thinking through it first. This can cause some trouble. He can be easily riled up and sometimes takes things too personally which does not help the case. There are quite a few in game instances where this is shown, particularly in his interactions with Seifer, but it can be seen elsewhere as well.
Still, he likes to be the protector for people he cares about as with the matron, his parents, and everyone in Balamb. He also has a certain respect for most women as is shown with his ‘ma’ and the matron. He also gets offended by Irvine when he tries to hit on the girls in the party which shows that the blatant womanizing bothers him.
One of the ways he can protect those he cares about as well as himself is his training in the martial arts. He is confident in his ability. He has this training mostly because his grandfather is his role model and had fought in the previous war. He looks up to his grandfather and strives to be like him despite the fact that his grandfather always kept a cool head and Zell tends to be a little rash. There are still times that he can be rational; particularly if he knows about what is going on beforehand. He would mostly keep to the rules or terms of agreement set out for him whether it was during an exam or through a mercenary contract.
It’s when the unexpected shows up or when the terms seem to fade that he just does what he feels is right and acts more on impulse. What ‘is right’ leads back to protecting himself and the people he cares about. He readily takes on and accepts leadership roles should it be offered or available for him but he still trusts others, following directions from Squall as their leader. He would state his opinion whether it be good or bad and if he had a preference for a certain task, he would make it known, but in the end he would follow the orders given to him. Being that he is a SeeD, following the directions is part of the job description though even if Squall hadn’t been their leader, Zell would still look to him as one.
Zell is loyal and would fight for or alongside those he feels are his friends. It may take some time for him to fully accept or like someone or it could be really quick depending on what type of person they are, but once he does, it’s hard to get rid of him. He may even come across as a little annoying.
One of the ways or an example of how he can be annoying is that if Zell wants something, he can become very persistent, especially if he knows that he’s making progress towards the answer or action he wants. This isn’t to say that he won’t give up if the attempted persuading gets him nowhere, but he would probably cross over into the annoying stage before letting up.
As stated earlier, Zell looks up to his grandfather and is the main reason Zell chose the path he did. It is possible that his grandfather told him stories about the past and war since Zell knows quite a bit of history so some of the things he knows like the events or details about the previous war may have come from that. Either way, his historical knowledge shows that he is interested in the past. He jumps at every chance to share his knowledge, becoming animate at talking about the history, how something came to be or what something could actually be based on the history he knows (for example at the Deep Sea Research facility).
Finally, in something that does not need much explanation: he absolutely loves Balamb Garden’s famous (and quite popular) hot dogs. Though they are usually sold out by the time he gets to the cafeteria, he doesn’t give up. While it may not necessarily be a defining personality trait, it is something that is often associated with him that others may know him by.
